Multiple Teeth Replacement

SEVERAL TEETH MISSING

Benefits of fixed bridge on dental implants:

  1. Greater stability, strength and functionality than traditional dentures in replacing back teeth
  2. When replacing three teeth in back of mouth, it is the only fixed alternative
  3. Preserves jawbone, preventing bone loss, and preserves facial appearance

Four or five additional visits will be required following the initial exam until the final fixed bridge can be permanently attached. Minor bruising and swelling in the gums and soft tissue will often be experienced.

Dr. Wetmore will provide ordinary painkillers for the discomfort. Generally, you can resume normal activities the following day.

Because this is only one of several options available, Dr. Wetmore will decide which is most appropriate for your situation.

INSTALLATION OF FIXED BRIDGE – STEP-BY-STEP

1. Before the procedure
A fixed bridge is the only appropriate alternative when three teeth are missing from the back of the mouth. It contains all of the teeth in one piece and will be anchored on dental implants.
2. Installation of implant
The implant will be installed, likely in a single visit. Generally, a temporary bridge will be placed to allow you to function as normally as possible while healing.
3. Attachment of bridge
Once the dental implant has integrated into the jawbone, the permanent bridge will be attached. This generally occurs around one to two months following the installation, though the time varies according to the teeth affected and the esthetic demands.
4. Results
The new bridge will provide a stable and secure solution and be as strong and natural looking as your own teeth.

FIXED BRIDGE ALTERNATIVE

Removable partial dentures

Though not an optimal alternative, removable partial dentures are sometimes used because it is a simple process and your natural teeth will be spared. The disadvantages are that they are at times uncomfortable and complicated to use. Their functionality is not as good as a bridge, and because they are made of metal and plastic, the appearance is not as esthetically pleasing.
