Full Arch Replacement

ALL TEETH MISSING

The ideal solution when all teeth are either missing or in a condition where they must be replaced is a fixed bridge anchored to the implants.

Prior to dental implants, if you were missing all teeth, no fixed solutions were available. With the advances in dentistry, replacement is viable for a full jaw replacement with implants and a fixed bridge. This option is a stable, permanent and esthetically pleasing solution.

Benefits of a fixed bridge on dental implants

  • Functionality of teeth similar to natural teeth, allowing comfortable eating
  • Provides and preserves more pleasing facial appearance
  • Prevents bone lossIs solid, stable solution that can last a lifetime

Treatment:

As with other dental implant procedures, the number of visits may vary according to your specific condition. You can expect approximately eight to ten visits for a fixed bridge to be installed. Quite frequently, patients report greater comfort directly following the procedure than had been anticipated.

Keep in mind that various options are available in conditions suitable for implants. Dr. Wetmore will recommend the most appropriate for you.

INSTALLING A FIXED BRIDGE – STEP-BY-STEP

1. Before the procedure
Prior to the dental implant procedure, Dr. Wetmore will discuss any preparation needed with you to ensure your understanding is complete.
2. Installing implants
The initial step will be to replace the lost tooth roots. In this situation, five implants will be used. Temporary teeth will be attached so that you will be able to eat and have the functionality of your own teeth while awaiting placement of the permanent bridge.
3. Attaching bridge
Once sufficient healing has occurred, your final bridge will be securely installed on top of the dental implants. Average healing time for a full jaw replacement is two to three visits in order to ensure the bridge is completely attached.
4. Result
You can expect an amazing result from this procedure. Your new teeth will function and look as natural as your own. Those who have had traditional dentures prior to undergoing this procedure describe it as overwhelmingly positive.

ALTERNATIVES TO A FIXED BRIDGE FOR IMPLANTS

Removable, implant anchored overdenture

This option consists of a removable full denture attached to a ball or bar, which is then anchored to two or more of the implants in the front of the jaw.

With this alternative, the implants assist in keeping dentures in place for greater comfort and functionality. This option is often chosen if cost is an issue, although the end result will not be comparable to a fixed bridge for dental implants.

Removable full denture

A full denture will be placed on top of the gum and cover the area of the lost teeth. As many have discovered, the only advantage is easy installation and lower cost. However, the disadvantages may be something to consider. A full denture most likely will cause uncomfortable eating, poor facial appearance, movement causing sore gums and even affect your speech. In addition, full dentures in the upper jaw will cause increased reduction in your sense of taste.
